Brett Helbling was raised in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and met the Jesuits at Gonzaga Prep in neighboring Spokane, Washington during his high school years. He left Idaho to attend the University of Portland, graduating with a degree in accounting. After spending a couple years realizing that counting wasn’t what Brett wanted to do forever, he embarked on an adventure to Costa Rica as a Peace Corps Volunteer. As a Peace Corps Volunteer Brett worked extensively with a community water utility and schools and discovered the joy of simple living through his neighbors. Brett returned to the United States to eat unhealthy amounts of Mexican food under the guise of serving as a Jesuit Volunteer at Dolores Mission. Brett enjoys Mexican food (always), running (occasionally) and sharks (never).
