The Office of Safeguard the Children of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles provides ongoing support, education, training, and resources to help prevent child sexual abuse and to address children’s safety in our parishes, schools, homes and communities.
As parents/caregivers, we teach children to say “please” and “thank you,” to play nicely, and to respect other adults. It is also key to stress the importance of safety, and let children know that it is okay to be impolite if they feel threatened or scared. Children should know that it’s okay to say “NO” if someone is asking them to do something they don’t feel comfortable doing, and that setting boundaries by saying things like -- “Don’t touch me there,” or “I don’t like that” -- are not rude, but in fact necessary for their safety.
